Medical On-site Support

Special project consultation:

Tunnelling:

MedOccs team members have been involved in providing medical support for hyperbaric tunnelling projects – including the work required for the Gautrain project in South Africa, requiring hyperbaric work at altitude and alteration of the diving exposure tables used. Services include:

  • Preparation of relevant documentation and operations manuals
  • Development of training materials and provision of training
  • Development of emergency procedures and emergency planning, including equipment
  • On-site medical support, including recompression therapy and intensive care under pressure
  • Telephonic on-call services, using the 24-hour hotline

Cold water diving:

Various diving projects involve diving in cold water (like those surrounding the Cape Peninsula). Support for such projects includes selection of working equipment, diving equipment and diving gear (particularly personal exposure protection). We also have regular contact with operations involving diving in the Polar Regions, and operations involving ice-water diving.

Deep diving:

Our experience in providing support for various deep surface-oriented (recreational) diving included diving in search of coelocanths (off Sodwana Bay) at a depth of 110m. We also provided on-site support for a deep recreational dive to a depth in excess of 250m. MedOccs deep diving support for deep commercial diving includes support for deep saturation dives and deep air or mixed gas diving, using different modes of decompression (including SUR-D).
